Pigmented lesions are caused by an excess of melanin in certain skin cells (melanin is the substance
that gives skin its color). Some pigmented lesions develop through hormonal changes; are a result of
aging skin or sun damaged skin; or caused from post inflammatory damage.
In the past, the only remedy for pigmented lesions was to cover them with make-up. More recently,
dermabrasion, cryosurgery, and other techniques have been tried, but they can leave a scar or a visible
white, unpigmented area.
Now laser technology has revolutionized treatments so that many pigmented lesions can be virtually
erased within a couple of treatments. Brown spots can be removed from anywhere on the body
including the face, hands, chest, etc. The treatments are quick, safe and effective. It is strongly
recommended to use at least 15 SPF sunscreen after spots are lightened to keep the areas from
darkening.
